Hugging monkeys master social politics

655be-hugmonkeyNational Geographic reports today that monkeys know how to schmooze with the best of them. The Web site says spider monkeys often use hugs, cheek-to-cheek touches and mutual armpit sniffing at the start of large monkey meetings. Researchers have noticed that hugging monkeys rarely become belligerent toward each other or other monkeys during group settings.

So it seems politicians and future trophy wives aren’t the only ones trying to master the art of social politics. Mark my words – it won’t be long until monkeys take over the planet with their cute, irresistible, calculative hugs.
